Greg, who speaks geek.

👋 Who I Am

I’m Greg Dunn, and I’ve been speaking geek fluently since the ‘80s... and professionally since the ‘90s.

I’m a full-stack developer, game designer, app builder, teacher, fixer of broken projects, and enthusiastic cheerleader for creative people doing hard things.

I think bringing ideas to life is a superpower – one that you can learn.

These days, I write about game development, creative coding, and the business of bringing wild ideas to life – whether that’s your first Unity game, an app or a SaaS tool built from scratch.

🛠️ What I’ve Done

I’ve spent decades turning ideas into working software—and reviving projects that others gave up on. Some highlights:

  • Programming professionally since 1996
  • Involved with the App Store since its opening in 2008
  • Making games and apps with Unity and C# since 2009
  • Co-founder of three startups, including one with a successful exit
  • Built dozens of apps, games, and data-driven projects from scratch
  • Rescued many failing projects (and their owners) who were abandoned by overconfident devs
  • Fluent in both Geek and Business – I walk in both worlds.

Much of my work has lived in the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), but I’ve also worked across tools like PostgreSQL, Python, Vue, Ghost, Flutter, and more.

🎮 What I’m Doing Now

I’ve shifted my focus toward teaching and mentoring — helping the next generation of game devs succeed faster (and with less frustration).

You see, when I was growing up, most people didn't even have a computer, much less know anything about programming or making video games.

Through Game Dev Alchemy, my free Skool group, I guide beginners and indie creators through hands-on game development. I’ve been teaching game dev online and in person since 2013 through YouTube, bootcamps, challenges, and private 1:1 game dev coaching.

For them, I can be the mentor I never had... to make their journey easier than mine was.

I also write here at Greg Speaks Geek to share lessons, insights, experiments, stories, and tools from the trenches of both game dev and freelance software developer life.
